Modeling biofluid mixtures using complex fluid models

Professor Qi Wang

Florida State University

Abstract:   Biofluid mixtures like biofilms, mucus, etc. are complex fluids of live micro-organisms. In this talk, I will present a theoretical framework for mathematical modeling of these complex fluids. The models presented belong to the category of phase field models since the volume fraction of a particular species serves naturally as a phase field variable. Steady states and linear stability of the states of some of the models are analyzed. Growth of material interface is simulated using finite difference methods. Comparison among different models and with experiments will be discussed as well.
