Global existence and stability results for shear flows of viscoelastic fluids

Professor Michael Renardy

Virginia Tech

Abstract:  Global existence results for viscoelastic flows are scarce, since suitable a priori estimates are not available. The lecture will present recent work on one-dimensional shear flows which exploits positive definiteness inequalities for the stress tensor to derive a priori bounds from which global existence and stability results can be deduced.
